Deputy President William Ruto has said the Msambweni by-election showed Kenyan politics is no longer about big names but the real issues affecting the people at the grassroot level.

The DP who supported the eventual winner in the highly contested race Fasel Baider, said the mini poll had opened up a new chapter in the Kenyan political scene ahead of 2022.

During the by-election which was a two horse race between Bader and Orange Democratic Movement’s Omar Boga, the former secured 15, 251 votes to the latter’s 10, 444 votes, dealing an embarrassing loss to the Raila Odinga led Opposition outfit. Raila, a former prime minister, while campaigning for Boga, had said the contest was a litmus for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

In a video sighted by TUKO.co.ke, the veteran politician had argued that if ODM party would be defeated in Msambweni, then the BBI would have a problem
